As we discussed in The First American Blogger Helps Start a New Nation, Thomas Paine was the quintessential blogger of his day. His words proved invaluable in helping shape the American Revolution.
It has been said that without his words, Washington’s sword would have been useless. Proving, again, that the pen is indeed mightier than the sword.
Paine’s pen struck at more than just the American cause. Born in England, he wasn’t branded a traitor of Britain until he wrote extensively on the French revolution in the 1790’s.
His essays ranged from politics, society and religion, to science and technology.
If Paine were alive today, he surely would be one of our most influential bloggers.
What would Paine think of the events that shape our world today? That is the premise of ThomasPaineBlogging.com. To take the thoughts and words of one of the most influencial writers in American history, and apply them to today’s world.
This is a task that the editor is humbled to undertake.
But we must never forget the wisdom of those that have preceded us, if we are not to endlessly repeat the mistakes of the past.
